"I Have A Dream…" Speech

In the second amendment, it says all citizens have the right to bear arms, but when twenty little babies die and seven courageous adults are slaughtered, these rights seem to be questioned by the hearts of the American people.
We seem to ask ourselves how? How does a crazy murder get a gun in America, isn’t that the kind of thing that happens in weak, unorganized countries? Now of course everyone has the right to buy anything that is in the market, but my question to all of you is this: is buying a gun a little too easy? What sort of certification does a person need to get a gun? Once a person turns 21 they can go to a gun store, fill in some paperwork, hand them their license, and be in and out of the store in an hour or two. Doesn’t that seem a little … sketchy? Let’s say my neighbor had a gun and I pissed my neighbor off… I’m done. Owning a gun is a huge responsibility on its own, but if you got that person a little too angry, the scary thing is that person has the power to end your life. So because having a gun is such a huge responsibility, shouldn’t people buying the gun be more educated? If a person is interested in buying a gun they should be forced to take classes on proper use and security for their gun. Even before they are able to buy the gun the store should do a background check on the person, see if they have any criminal backgrounds, if they are an alcoholic, are on any prescription drugs that can effect their mental health, and see if the person has any disorders. If that person meets all the requirements to own a gun, they should also be given a security system to protect their weapons from going into the wrong hands.
Sure the system for buying a gun will be difficult, but it should become difficult, not any person with a license should be given a gun. But getting a gun should be difficult, so that way people that want to harm others won’t be able to do so. In the past seven months there have been four major mass murders, and how have most of these guns be acquired? These murders, killing dozens of people have gotten their guns legally. If this doesn’t show the government that we need to change our police on gun control, what will? In Wisconsin when shooting occurred in the Sihk Temple, nothing happened to change the policy. The shooting at a Minneapolis manufacturer, nothing changed. The Colorado shooting didn’t change much either just scared people into going to a movie theater. And then the Newton tragedy? Hopefully this time, change will happen, but why did it take us this long to realize all the dangers? Why did it take twenty-seven innocent lives that never had a chance, to finally start people realizing we need to fix this? We need to learn from the Newton tragedy, at least then the victims will be able to know nobody will feel they way they do now. Because this can’t go on, we can either stop it now, or risk more mass murders occurring. Imagine your little girl going to school, and never coming home, your teenage brother going to the movies and never coming home, we need to protect our people, and we can do this with proper gun control.

Summary on Vietnam & The U.S. A New Chapter?

After reading the article, Vietnam & The U.S. A New Chapter?,  I got the sense that Vietnam and the U.S. are beginning to unite closer then anyone would have thought they would have a couple decades ago. By the end of the Vietnam war, the Americans lost to the communist side of Vietnam, and their relations between each other were very rocky. Until, 1995 when diplomatic relations were restored between the two countries, changing everything. Now the U.S. is the largest importer of Vietnamese goods, helping Vietnam out a lot. even though the older citizens of Vietnam still feel the "battle scars" of the war, the younger generations seems more open to the new unity of America and Vietnam. The younger generations of Vietnam don't understand the pain that the war that caused for many of their grandparents. "For them, the war they learned about in school as "The American War" might as well have happened centuries ago," (Thomas Fuller, N.Y.T.) this is how many of the kids in Vietnam feel. But, many of the citizens in Vietnam still feel the effects of the war in common day life. For example, Agent Orange is a constant reminder to all the citizens of the horrible war  that happened only four decades ago. Agent Orange is a toxic defiant that American Soldiers sprayed over jungles to destroy vegetation that provided cover to Vietcong fighters and North Vietnamese troops. To this day no vegetation grows there, and many citizens got many types of cancers, birth defects and other diseases. And after many pleas for help, America finally decides to help with the clean up of Agent Orange. In conclusion, many people believe that there is a good future for the relationship between the two nations, and many high hopes for further relations.

Hello Bloggers!

This is going to be my first free-write for our "practice round" on our blogs. Hope you like it :)

  • What would you do if you were in the middle of the lake and your boat began to leak?

What happened to you? I used to be able to tell you anything, my thoughts about school, my feelings, who I like, stuff I could and couldn’t do. But now? I feel like you’ve changed. A change that happened so quick, so suddenly, I had no preparation for it what-so-ever. You’ve gone down a road you can’t even see. All of a sudden things you cared about and valued a year ago, seem to mean little to nothing to you now. I miss the old you. The one that would rather have a girl’s night out then talk to some random guy, the one who’d rather dance and have fun then mope around all day. I wish I could’ve seen what happened to you so I could fix it. Now I feel like I’m on a boat in the middle of the lake and it leaking. I don’t know whether I should just jump off the boat and leave the problem, or if I should face the problem head on and fix the leak. When a friend changes, something that sadly happens quiet often in middle school, what really are your choice to do? Ditch the friend because you don't feel like you should change her because you don't like the way she acts. Or you can face the "leak" head on and tell her she needs to change before she looses friends?  While most people feel this way toward their problems what can most people do? Risk facing the problem whether it is going up to a friend, family member, or just sticking up for yourself. People seem to rather just “jump off the boat and swim” then risk trying to “fix the leak” and going down with your boat.

*I decided to change my free-write from just answering the question by simply saying " If I was found in the middle of the lake and it was leaking... blah blah blah" I used the question to form a metaphor around a story. I figured that most girls, especially in middle and high school, seem to change the most, so I used my "what if" question as a metaphor. In situations like a close friend changing you really have to decide whether you will just "jump off and swim to shore" or if you'll face the problem head-on and "fix the leak". That was just my take on the free-write, hope you enjoyed!*
